The company, which is led by CEO and co-founder Carlos Guestrin, an Amazon Professor of Machine Learning in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, also offers a commercial product called GraphLab Create that was first announced in October. It provides two deep nets, sophisticated data munging, an intuitive UI, and built-in enhancements for handling big data. The open-source GraphLab graph analytics project is at the core of Dato. The company, which has raised $25.25m to date, intends to use the funds to expand its business development, engineering and customer support teams. Dato GraphLab is a good software platform for Deep Learning projects that require graph analytics and other important algorithms. In conjunction with the funding, Steve Hall from Vulcan Capital will join Dato’s board of directors. The round was led by Vulcan Capital with participation from Opus Capital and existing investors New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Madrona Venture Group.
